Press Release: Biden Administration Taps CGA Senior Advisor Phil Stupak for Role at U.S. Department of Homeland Security

Gregory Michaelidis, Seasoned Security & Policy Communicator, joins CGA

September 14, 2021 (Washington, DC) – Today, Cambridge Global Advisors (CGA) announced Phil Stupak, a Senior Advisor at the firm, has been appointed by the Biden-Harris Administration to serve as Senior Advisor within the Management Directorate in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of the Chief Information Officer (CIO). The appointment represents Phil’s second in the federal government, having previously served in President Obama's Administration where he handled cybersecurity, international relations, and management and budget portfolios for the DHS Deputy Secretary.

At CGA, Phil worked with variety of Fortune 500 companies, nonprofits, and federal government entities on high-profile national security and defense issues, including cybersecurity and election security, countering threats from terrorism, and information-sharing among state and local government and law enforcement.

“Phil has been a tremendous force for growth of our Service-Disable Veteran-Owned Small Business at CGA, and he will be missed,” CGA Chairman and Founding Partner, Christopher Burnham, said of Stupak’s appointment. “But DHS CIO’s office is gaining the skills and insights of a truly top professional. Phil brings with him a great understanding of the complexities of policymaking and implementation that allowed him to contribute greatly to CGA’s mission and support for our clients.”

On the heels of Mr. Stupak’s departure, CGA also announced the appointment of Gregory Michaelidis in the role of Senior Advisor. For more than fifteen years Greg has worked at the intersection of security policy, research, and public affairs, and has led or contributed to more than two-dozen local, national, and global multi-channel strategic communications campaigns. He regularly writes and speaks on topics including information security, human factors in cybersecurity, disinformation, and countering violent extremism.

Greg also served as an appointee for both terms of the Obama-Biden Administration. From 2009 until 2013 he was Director of Speechwriting for DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano. From 2014 until 2017 he served as Senior Advisor for Public Affairs in the DHS National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD), predecessor to the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), where he helped senior DHS officials communicate with the public and private sectors security risks and breaches.

After leaving the Obama-Biden Administration, he advised clients on increasing public understanding of information security through his own consultancy, Security Awareness Lab, LLC. Most recently, he led a team at MITRE responsible for increasing the impact and public understanding of innovative programs and initiatives in homeland security and public health.

Commenting on the moves CGA Chief Executive Officer, Douglas Lute, added, “Both of these changes reinforce CGA’s reputation for high-level talent and expertise in our core focus areas. I’m proud that not only professionals like Phil assume positions of responsibility within the government, but also that we continue to attract exceptional talent like Greg to continue our CGA mission.”
